Burrington Primary School

Welcome

As Head Teacher of Burrington Church of England Primary School, I am delighted to welcome you to our vibrant, caring and flourishing school.

Nestled in the outstanding area of natural beauty that is the Mendip Hills, Burrington Primary is a very special place of learning where children are cherished and nurtured to be confident, happy and inquisitive learners, encouraged to be ambitious and seize the many opportunities that this remarkable small school provides. This enables an education which lays a firm foundation of aspiration, curiosity and the belief that we can all make a positive difference in our world.

There is a very strong sense of partnership between the school and parents, governors and the wider community which enhances a ‘family’ ethos and reinforces our federation motto, ‘cherish and nurture, flourish and aspire’.

Since 2018, we have become part of the Federation of Burrington and Wrington Church Schools which has enabled both schools to benefit from additional opportunities for professional development, curriculum enrichment and shared expertise. In January 2023 we were delighted to join the Lighthouse Schools Partnership Multi Academy Trust. We have strong links with local schools in our cluster and beyond, and we work closely with the Diocese of Bath and Wells as well as North Somerset Local Authority. This church school has served the area for over 150 years; our treasured traditions are combined with an outward looking approach as we draw on national and international research and pedagogy to inform our practice.

'Let all that you do be done in love’ 1Corinthians 16:14 is our Federation guiding principle. Our vision is to be 'a joyful community of life-long learners, to live with love and purpose, as we grow and flourish together'. This is the foundation of all we do.  We strive to provide an outstanding education which develops the whole child: socially, academically, morally and spiritually.

Our rural location is a perfect context for our thriving forest school which inspires and challenges children in the nursery, Reception and Key Stage 1 and underpins further learning on the sustainable global goals with older pupils. Our skilled and dedicated staff have the highest expectations of the children from the Cherry Buds Nursery up to Year 6 and I feel very fortunate to work with a fantastic team of enthusiastic, caring and inspiring staff, each with their own interests and areas of expertise as we learn from one another.

We are committed to inspiring children to be the best that they can be, valuing all as unique individuals and developing their special qualities and strengths to enable them to make greatest possible progress and to flourish in all aspects of school life. We strive to prepare the children for success, as responsible caring citizens, confident and well equipped for the challenges of the 21st century with a zest for life and learning, now and in the future.

Whether you are a visitor, a current or prospective parent, or a pupil, we hope you will enjoy navigating through our website to discover more about learning at Burrington.
